In an interview with Fox News’ “Hannity,” presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway used visual aids that consisted of two pieces of paper to describe the Trump administration’s response to the media-fueled controversy over Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Russian lawyer during last year’s presidential campaign.
One of the pieces of paper had the words “conclusion” and “collusion” written on it, while the other had the words “illusion” and “delusion.”
“What’s the conclusion? Collusion? No. We don’t have that yet,’” Conway stated. “I see illusion and delusion. Just so we’re clear, everyone. Conclusion? Collusion, no. Illusion and delusion, yes.”
In its lopsided coverage of the Russian probe, Conway said that the mainstream media has a “myopic, lemming-like, ants on a sugar cube mentality” and a “culture of sameness.”
“Do you realize the President of the United States sat with the President of Russia less than a week ago for two hours and 15 minutes, and yet we’re talking about this and not that?” she asked. “Do you realize that you’ve got people in the media now between their lower third chyrons and what comes out of their mouth, they talk more about Russia than America?”
Conway also compared Don Jr.’s meeting with Russian attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya to the iffy deals made between the Clintons and Russian officials (including one in which Hillary Clinton sold U.S. uranium to Russia and funneled some of the proceeds into Clinton Foundation coffers).
“The biggest response I’ve heard from the media about that is, ‘Oh, but a different person won. You won, she lost,’” Conway told “Hannity.” “That does not erase the fact that people may have broken the law and that they colluded with foreign governments to try to damage people on the Trump campaign, which by extension would damage Mr. Trump at the time.”
